This Privacy Policy explains what information CoolNicknames (coolnicknames.net) handles when you use the site, why, where it is kept and for how long. In short: you do not need an account, we run no advertising and no third-party analytics, and the only things you type that leave your browser are the names you put into the generator and the nicknames you choose to share.

No account, no ads, no analytics
You can use every feature without signing up. CoolNicknames does not show advertising and does not load Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics or tracking script. The site itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies.
Names you type into the generator
When you press Generate, the name you typed is sent to our server so it can build the styles, find matching symbols and load community nicknames for that name. The name and your IP address are passed to our nickname data server, which is operated by us in the EU region, so the list of community nicknames can be matched to the name. The name is also passed, without your IP address, to our translation and symbol services (also run by us) to pick matching emoji and kaomoji.
On the site we keep a daily count of how many times each name was generated, used for the “most generated names” list. These counts are deleted after 35 days. Once a day, weekly totals per name (the name, how many visits and how many generations — no IP address and no identifier) are sent to our own statistics server to understand which names people look for.
Please do not type anything into the generator that you would not want stored, such as a full legal name together with other personal details. A first name or a nickname is all the tool needs.
Nicknames you share with the community
Under the generator results you can add your own nickname for a name. This is optional. If you submit one, the nickname, the name it belongs to and your IP address are stored on our nickname data server. The IP address is used to limit abuse and spam. Your nickname may then appear publicly to other visitors under that name, with its copy and like counts.
Submissions pass a banned-word filter, and we remove nicknames that are vulgar, hateful, impersonate a real person or target a religion, caste or community. To remove a nickname you submitted, email us the exact nickname and the name it was added under (see Your rights).
“Submit your nickname” form on the homepage. If you use this form, we store the nickname and the use you picked (for example “Friends” or “Gaming”) in the site database as a pending submission. The CoolNicknames Editorial Team reviews it; approved nicknames are shown publicly on the homepage, rejected ones are deleted. We do not store your IP address with the submission — only a temporary one-way hash of it for 24 hours to limit spam.
Copies, likes and feedback
When you copy, like or dislike a nickname, the site records the count for that nickname. Counts are kept per day and removed after 35 days on the site. The “Was this helpful?” box stores your vote and, if you write one, your note (up to 600 characters). To stop the same person voting many times, a temporary marker made from a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for 12 hours and then deleted.
Information kept only in your browser
Some features save small items in your browser’s local storage, on your device only: nicknames you save with the heart button, which nicknames you liked, your dark mode setting, whether you already answered the feedback box, and a short-lived access token the generator needs to work. We cannot read this data from our side. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for coolnicknames.net.
Hosting and security providers
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it against attacks and speeds up delivery. Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address to do this and may set a strictly necessary security cookie; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser, date and page requested) for about 10 days to keep the site secure and fix errors. A security plugin monitors the site for attacks and file changes.
Children
CoolNicknames is a general-audience website and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, such as a real full name, in a community nickname, contact us and we will remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) give you rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it and have it deleted. Because we do not use accounts, the practical way to use these rights is to email [email protected] with the nickname or name you are asking about. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for advertising.
Why we process this information
We handle the information above to run the features you ask for (generating styles, showing community nicknames, counting copies and likes), to keep the site secure and free of spam, and to understand which names and lists are useful so we can improve them. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts collecting something new, for example through a new feature, we will update this page first and change the “Last updated” date at the top. Questions about this policy can be sent through our contact page.
